Post 50: Creative Process: We Sit

I wrote this poem from the view point of being in a board room trying to figure out ideas for a brand. Think of it as a bunch of ad execs trying to brainstorm ideas. The poem is a trip through the creative process:

We sit, we think

We sit, we ponder

Word play, brainstorm, “first thing that comes to your head when you think maverick….go”

Squat, nothing, we draw a blank

We draw, stretch, doodle just a little

We sit, we think

Individualist, rebel, manly man

Warrior, cowboys, handy man

“What about women?”…”yeah what about us!”

Biker chicks, indie flicks, hippies, hula hoops,

Flowy, free spirited

“We’re getting somewhere!”

We sit, we think

Again more blanks

“Can we take a break?” “I’d like to stretch my legs” “let’s sleep on it and get back to it tomorrow”

We sit, we ponder

We sit, we call it quits at least for today

“good I could go for a smoke anyways”

Post 47: Partner’s Doodle: The Story of the Cowboy

She just doesn’t get it, between tending the farm and weekends at the rodeo these little cigarettes are all I got to keep me in my saddle. My daddy and my daddy’s daddy smoked em and nothing but old age came to carry them home. But with her spending all that time in town she’s heard about some “e Cigarette” and is convinced that I should switch cold turkey. Psh, Shelly Ann may be the lady of the house and a mean cook in the kitchen but what does she know about me and my smokes?, huh? Talkin’, “Johnny I never did like those things and they just smell up the whole house”. I think it’s all them automobile fumes that’s got her losing it. Just to shut her up I told her to run down to Jacks Family Convince and pick me up a pack and I’ll give em a try. “Looks and taste just like traditional cigarettes”, yeah right, don’t look like my smokes to me. “Eliminates inhaling tar, and cancer causing carcinogens”, never heard no such thing as inhalin’ tar. If that’s the case we all inhalin’ tar with then roads they putting down all over the place. Awe hell if it’ll keep the Misses off my back I’ll try it But I’m keeping a pack in the stalls just in case. What could it hurt if I don’t like em I can tell her I tried. She’s a forgiving woman, most of the time. Ahhhh, well that’s just weird. I just don’t know about these things. I mean maybe when the fellas ain’t around. Or if my smokes run low. I’ll just keep em here in the house better than smoking out back, ‘specially in the rain. Hey I wonder if Eddy’s Misses got him on these “e cigarettes” too. You know how ladies give each other ideas…

Post 45: Partner’s Doodles: Recreating It

farm

Lauren drew me the cutest picture of a farm with cows and pigs and a farmer. Before I could do anything, I wanted to make the picture come to life. I believe she was drawing from the idea of Marlboro country. The tractor, as I’ve added to my picture, makes it more industrial. That’s what I think of when I think of Marlboro Sky. Industrialized but still western.
